No Manifesto offers a multi-layered and interdisciplinary exploration of the creative collaboration of the group of Swansea-based writers, artists, musicians and intellectuals commonly referred to as the ‘Kardomah Gang’.
This pre-War group, which met in the city’s Kardomah Cafe and included Dylan Thomas, has been described by commentators as an ‘informal’ alliance between the members, which was also amorphous in character. As one puts it:
‘They had no manifesto, no grand theories. But for nearly a decade, a coterie of writers, composers and painters gathered in a Swansea café; to share their hopes and dreams.’
Through experimentation with new multi-disciplinary techniques based on bespoke lens designs, my work seeks to authentically capture both the essence of the individual members’ creative identity and the complexity and ethereal nature of the Gang’s relationships in the context of wider themes of memory, identity and place.
